I especially "love" this bit:
"There is no positive obligation to create a structure for legal recognition or registration of same-sex relationships," it said, claiming that in other countries any such obligation may be out of keeping with the social, cultural and religious norms and traditions.
NO OBLIGATION TO PROMOTE EQUALITY!!!
The protection of the rights of citizens should be one of the main priorities of government. Thankfully they've dropped their challenge, but unfortunately they refuse to support a Europe wide pro-equality stance.
First of all you cant believe everything you read in a paper not even the gruniard but if the story is true then I personally agree with you but I also remember that it is only a Labour Government that has done anything on the equality agenda and I am proud of that.
ReplyDeleteSo if this is true then thank god they withdrew the challenge but at the same time thank god they have legislated here in our own country the way they have to ensure the equality agenda is at the heart of everything they do.
Yes, I think it is important to remember that even when we fail at least we've tried to make a difference. The Tories actively support bigotry. It was them after all who instituted Section 28.
ReplyDeleteIt is fantastic the work Labour has achieved in government to attack intolerance and discrimination. In fact the reason I'm so angry about this is because of the high standards the Party can reach when we work together on an issue.
